    Andean Cross Collection 950 Silver

The chakana, Andean cross or southern cross, has several meanings according to its use. It is a recurring symbol in the original cultures of the Andes.

For the Incas it was the enigmatic symbol of Viracocha, a symbol of luck and the most important of the Andean worldview, considered a sacred element of power, mysticism and wisdom. In the Andean universe there are simultaneous, parallel and communicated worlds, where the "Chakana" represents the bridge or ladder to the highest, which connects man with the universe, maintaining a relationship of harmony with nature and the spiritual world. a union with the earth and the sky, the earth and the sun, the low and the high and the man and the superior.

In the Inca empire this geometric figure the "Chakana" was used as a computer for mathematical, religious, philosophical and social thoughts, they were also found in various works of architecture, petroglyphs, textiles, ceramics and sculptures. Today it is still present in ceremonial rituals.

The design of the "Chakana" is a reference to the Sun and the Southern Cross, which has a symmetrical shape of stairs on its sides, four main ones that are the divisions of the Tahuantinsuyo, twelve points and a circular center divided into two parts that represents Andean duality.

Following the cosmogonic framework, the constructions of huacas, temples and Qhapaq Ñan (Inca and pre-Inca roads), are not a mere chance but rather a route of expression of Inca wisdom, which would be built on an immense "Chakana" .

The Andean cultures celebrate the day of the "Chakana" every May 3, when the constellation of the "Southern Cross", acquires an astronomical (geometric) shape of a perfect cross, in a vertical position with respect to the South Pole, acting as a Compass in the sky that helps to know the ancient wisdom, it is also linked to the seasons of the year and an anagram of symbols.

In the philosophy and perception of the Andean world, everything was divided into four and three.

    In four:

The four elements: fire, air, earth and water, were represented and integrated in the "Chakana", which at the same time was the portal of time and space, which connected with other dimensions.

Also the four directions or directions of the Earth: North, East, South, West.

    In three:

    The three Inca laws:

    1 Ama Sua (don't be a thief)

    2 Ama Llulla (don't be a liar)

3 Ama Quella (don't be idle)

    The three Andean values:

    1 Muñay (love)

    2 Llancay (work)

    3 Yachay (learn)

    The three worlds of life:

1 Hanan Pacha: The heavenly and supraterrestrial world above the heavens where the Gods are. Represented by the condor.

2 Kay Pacha or the world here, the present (men, animals and plants). Represented by the jaguar

3 Uku Pacha or the world below (dead, unborn and diseases). Represented by the serpent.
